Hiking

A 1.5 mile round trip trail takes you
along the all of the falls in the park.
The trail is easy to hike, but you
must go down an enclosed metal
staircase and some slippery rocks
to get to the base of Burgess Falls.
An access road is an easy walk back
from the Falls.

The 1 mile Ridge Top Trail offers
some beautiful views of the gorge
below.  This trail can be accessed
near the end of the Burgess Falls
trail.
This is a beautiful state park that can be hiked and explored
in a very short time.  We often stop by here on our way to
Fall Creek Falls, or on the way back home.  The river can be
accessed from the picnic area, and is a fun swimming hole
on a hot day.  The falls are spectacular, culminating with
the beautiful Lower Falls at the end of the trail.

Waterfalls

Four waterfalls can be seen from
the main trail.  The first is a 20'
cascade that is easily accessible
and a fine place to cool off.

Next on the trail is the upper falls,
a 30' drop.  You can walk down the
creek from the cascade area and
look over the upper falls, but be
careful!  An overlook is available
from the main trail.

The 80' middle falls are alone
worth the trip.  An overlook offers
a fine opportunity to view these
beautiful, cascading falls.

And last but certainly not least, are
the 132' lower falls, or what is
commonly referred to as Burgess
Falls.  This grand waterfall is
perhaps the most beautiful in
Tennessee.  Numerous vantage
points offer stunning views of the
falls.  You can walk to the top of
the falls just off the main trail, and
hike to the bottom via an enclosed
metal staircase and by navigating
some slippery rocks.  Watch out
for snakes!   (see image below)
Park Amenities

A playground, 16 picnic tables (12
with grills), a rentable picnic shelter,
restrooms and a butterfly garden
are available for use at the park.

Fishing

There is some good fishing
available at Burgess Falls, but no
boats are allowed.  Bass and bream
can be taken along the lake, below
the dam, and below the main falls.
Be sure to check the local and state
fishing laws before you arrive.
